THERAPY

Slip into a steamy, bubbling, hot tub for your daily dose of calm and rejuvenation. Not only will it gently ease those aches and pains we all get from time to time, it assists in relieving the stresses of everyday life, which in turn, promotes detoxification, circulation and relaxation leading to better sleep. Hydrotherapy also has a variety of benefits for those of us who have muscle sprains, injuries or arthritis and may ease certain symptoms of diabetes.

LIFESTYLE

A lot of us spend a great deal of time outdoors here in the Algarve, a Hot Tub allows you to enjoy the evenings (and winter days), when a swimming pool is not as inviting, or economical to run. A Hot Tub provides a perfect and affordable retreat that can renew and revive.

FAMILY FUN

A hot tub is fun for all ages, everyone from children to grandparents can enjoy the bubbles and gentle therapy. It creates the ideal setting to bring family and friends together to relax and enjoy conversation together. You'll also find yourself becoming incredibly popular too, as your friends queue up to share a cool drink and have a fun dip in your tub! Your Hot Tub will be the centre of attraction for a party at any time of the year.

Health Benefits of Hot Tubs

When you immerse yourself in a hot tub at around 38°C, two major aspects of your physiology are affected; 1. The load on your heart is falls by up to 20% due to buoyancy effectively reducing your body mass by 90%. 2. Your core body temperature increases, which in turn dilates the blood vessels lessening the resistance to blood flow and reducing blood pressure. As your body temperature rises, muscles relax relieving aches and pains you also start to perspire so toxins in the epidermis are expelled. When these effects are combined with the gentle massage of the spa’s hydrotherapy jets muscles are relaxed even more and a general feeling of well being is achieved. STRESS RELIEF If you’ve ever had a neck, back and body massage, or, even just a long soak in a hot bath, you know how relaxed it makes you feel. The spa’s warm water relaxes you and improves circulation leading to the production of endorphins (the body’s feel good hormone) and the massage effect of the hydro-therapy jets relieves muscle tension in six areas of the body: Neck, shoulder, mid-back, lower back, thighs and feet. Just 20 minutes in a hot tub has been proven to relieve high blood pressure, headaches and tense muscle pain caused by stress.

IMPROVED SLEEP

A 30 minute hot tub session about 90 minutes before bedtime will help you sleep more easily. A fact endorsed by many health care professionals. Your body temperature increases whilst in your tub, then cools when you get out, replicating the decline in body temperature that has been measured in deep sleep studies. Combine this with reduced levels of tension and increased levels of your “feel good” hormone and you can't fail to have a good nights’ sleep. Many hot tub users also benefit from a calmer temperament with fewer bouts of anxiety and depression.

ACCELERATED HEALING

A hot tub improves circulation and consequently increases the amount of oxygen carried by the blood to wound sites (muscle tears, tendon strains, inflamed joints etc.), white blood cell and antibody production are assisted, promoting the destruction of toxins, stimulating the formation of new tissue and boosting the immune system. The invigorating effect of the hydro-therapy jets on muscle tissue simulates gentle exercise which in turn helps break down Lactic Acid build up, reducing stiffness and muscle pain.

ARTHRITIS PAIN RELIEF

Medical practitioners and institutes of sport have praised the benefits of heated water massage therapy for years. The Arthritis Foundation is one such credible source and has found that, "the warmth, massage effect, and buoyancy, needed to both relax and exercise joints and muscles in the convenience of one's home is available in home whirlpool baths or spas". The Arthritis Foundation further states that, "Soaking in water allows muscles to become relaxed, which lets you perform a range of motion exercises and to carry out daily tasks with less pain and strain."

TYPE 2 DIABETES

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (September 16, 1999) indicated that soaking in a hot tub can help ease the symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes. Patients with this disease who spent half an hour in a hot tub, 6 days a week, for three weeks reduced their blood sugar levels by up to 13%. The hot tub’s heat dilates blood vessels, blood flow improves and the body makes better use of insulin, the hormone that converts blood sugar into energy.

DERMAL

Using a hot tub is a great way to cleanse your skin. With an average water temperature of 38°C, soaking in a hot tub induces the body to perspire, toxins such as bacteria and excess minerals are secreted from the epidermal layer. Plus the gentle abrasion of the water jets against the body helps to remove dead skin cells, leaving softer, smoother, healthier skin. Taking a cool shower after your hot tub session will close the skins pores quickly and removes any spa, water care, chemical residue from your body, thus ensuring good epidermal health. *These "Health Benefits Of Hot Tubs" are given in good faith and are widely published by a variety of organisations, however, Good Life Spas cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions in the text above and this document should be used for guidance only.
